In 1965, at the age of sixty-nine, A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupāda boarded a steamship from Calcutta to New York City with just forty rupees and a crate of translated Sanskrit volumes.
He did not come to build personal prestige or commercial influence. He came to share a dialogue about the soul, selfless action, and eternal consciousness with a generation of seekers asking fundamental questions.

Arrival in Bowery & Tompkins Square
Sitting under a tree in Tompkins Square Park, he chanted the Maha-mantra and invited artists, students, and seekers into his apartment for home-cooked vegetarian meals and philosophical discussions on the Bhagavad-gītā.
Translations & Global Community
In the twelve years that followed, he circled the globe fourteen times, established over one hundred centers, and translated more than sixty volumes of foundational Vedic literature into English with exhaustive purports.
